New Selenium Releases Today

Posted by Patrick Lightbody on Jan 12, 2009 4:06:48 PM

After a much longer delay than we ever anticipated, we're pleased to announce a 1.0-beta-2 release for both Selenium Core and Selenium Remote Control. You can find them at the Selenium Downloads page.

So what's next?

As we've said in previous blog posts, we're really excited and expect 2009 to be a great year for Selenium. Here are just some of the exciting developments going on in the new year:

  • We still plan to release 1.0 final versions for Core, RC, and IDE in the next few weeks - the only holdup now is improved documentation.
  • We have a great team of volunteer Selenium users putting together an official "book" that will serve as new documentation for 1.0 and beyond.
  • We're still moving forward with Selenium 2.0, which includes better support for all major browsers, new native hooks to support new features such as file downloads, and more.
  • There are two new Selenium-related startups that provided commercial solutions for the Selenium community:
    • BrowserMob provides a low-cost load testing service that uses real browsers, powered by Selenium, to generate load against your site.
    • Sauce Labs makes running Selenium test suites much faster by running them in parallel and in the cloud.
  • We plan to continue to integrate new projects, such as Bromine and CubicTest, in to the larger Selenium community.

We're really excited about all the new members in our community and we hope you're equally excited about the upcoming year!

Congratulations Seleniumistas on getting to 1.0 on Core and RC. While it took a while, the resulting product is well worth the wait.

I'd like to add that PushToTest TestMaker currently supports and ships with Selenium IDE 1.0 beta 2 and Selenium Core and RC. Plus we have the SeleniumHTMLUnit script runner to run Selenese tests using the HTMLUnit/Rhino browser. And, we ship a Transformer to go from Selenese tests to JUnit unit tests in Java or Jython. TestMaker is open source too, under GPL v2. Details are at http://selenium.pushtotest.com.

We look forward to Selenium IDE 1.0 going final! And, you can count on us to copy edit and add to the upcoming documentation.

Congratulations to everyone.
