Is it possible to change the user agent in Firefox programmatically?

I did change the prefs.js file to override the user agent, the problem with this approach is that it won't get applied until I restart Firefox.

Therefore, if someone could let me know of a way to change the user agent I would greatly appreciate it.

Also, if you know a way to apply the changes on prefs.js without restarting Firefox that woud help. (refresh didn't work)
